Filament Dryer Recommendations
Drying Filament
Drying filament can help its printability, bed-adhesion, and lessen stringing. Some filaments need drying more than others. PLA can perform better with drying, while PETG will be a stringy mess without it.

Commercially available filament dryers
- Bambu Labs - If you have a Bambu Labs printer, the AMS 2 Pro or AMS HT may be your best bet for features, availability, and compatibility:
- SUNLU
- S2 - this is best for whenyou need >85C to dry your filaments
- S4
- The S4 is a nice 4 spool dryers that top out at 75C. Some people prefer the Creality's 2×2 layout over the S4's 1×4 layout
- The Sunlu S4/E2 have max timer settings of 99 hours
- Creality Space
- Pi x4, with 2×2 layout, is one the best values along with the Sovol SH03) if you need to dry more than PLA/PETG, but don't need >85C (which you'd want a Sunlu E2 for)
- Eibos Cyclopes
- Works well and cyclopes can be set for continuous drying
- Sovol
- SH03 are the best value if you need to dry more than PLA/PETG, but don't need >85C (which you'd want a Sunlu E2 for).
- Polymaker Polydryer - this brand is the best under $100 option because of its versatility (1 dryer, many boxes and mods)
Note: There are plenty of dryers that get the job done, but many of them are close in price to better, more modern models. If budget demands the lowest priced options, they're still going to get your filament dry.
Make Your Own Filament Dehydrator
- Modify a dedicated food dehydrator -
Note: Do Not Ever Use It For Food Again.
Be sure to label the food dehydrator as “filament-only”.
- This is a link to a printable design to make round food dehydrator trays tall enough to fit one or two spools of filament per tray. They can be easily modified to fit other sizes, but the default food dehydrator they fit (Elite Gourmet EFD319) is fairly cheap.
- You can check thrift stores and online for inexpensive secondhand dehydrators.
- Modify a plastic cereal container for individual spools - https://makerworld.com/en/models/99533-cereal-box-dry-box-spool-and-dessiccant-holder#profileId-1911855
- Convert a bin - https://all3dp.com/2/diy-filament-dry-box-tutorial/
- Vacuum bags w/ desiccant - some people reported “they were lots of work and didn't work well.”
