Filament Box Whistle Buddy
The Whistle Buddy lets you turn a leftover “pizza box style” filament box into a whistle/zine distribution center suitable for providing to local businesses and community centers. Just don't forget to tape over the little window that many of the boxes have.
The Whistle Buddy slides onto the filament box & then the lid flap can be inserted. This will hold the lid open. The Whistle Buddy also holds approximately 50 small zines (8 sheets folded from a single 8.5“ x 11”). You can put one or two Whistle Buddies on a single filament box (just be sure to print one mirror imaged to go on the other side).
You can also print the included image files, cut them apart, and decorate your Whistle Box with useful information. Some of the include printable information is local to the Portland, Oregon area and it prioritizes English & Spanish. If you localize these files to another location and/or language, please reach out here and I'll add the files to the main download.
The Whistle Buddy has been successfully tested with the following Filament brand boxes
- Bambu (older full spool pizza-box style)
- Eryone
- Joy Future
- Overture
- Polymaker
You should not need to enable supports for this print. All the STLs are “left side” Whistle Buddies; mirror image in your Slicer to create a “right side” Whistle Buddy.
Some filament boxes are made with thicker 0.1“ cardboard while others are made with thinner 0.08” cardboard. The Whistle Buddy was designed to be compatible with the thicker cardboard boxes but still works well with the thinner ones in my testing.
